Try Points Shop items on your profile first
Steam Profile Studio puts Points Shop backgrounds, animated avatars and frames on a mockup of your own profile, so you can see the whole look and what it costs before you spend anything.
How to do it
- Open Steam Profile Studio and paste your Steam profile link at the top. Your profile needs to be public.
- Click the part of the profile you want to change: the background, your avatar, its frame or the mini-profile. The panel beside it lists matching Points Shop items.
- Search by item name or game, or filter by theme and by animated or still.
- Click an item to put it on the mockup. Mini-profile backgrounds show on the hover card preview.
- Check the points chip in the toolbar for the total. Click it for the breakdown.
Worth knowing
- Things you already own are crossed out in the breakdown, so the total is what you'd still need to spend.
- You can also design showcase artwork that lines up with the background, then export it as pieces ready for Steam.
- It's a mockup. Check the item and its price in the Points Shop before you buy.
- Steam Profile Studio is still in beta. Your project is saved in your browser, so a refresh won't lose it.
Questions
- Can I preview a Steam profile background before buying it?
- Yes. In Steam Profile Studio, pick any Points Shop background and it goes behind a mockup of your profile, animated ones included.
- Do I need to sign in?
- No. Paste your Steam profile link to import it, or start from the blank template. Importing only works for public profiles.
- How does it work out the points cost?
- Item prices come from the Points Shop. Items already on your imported profile count as owned. Extra showcase slots aren't sold in the shop, so their price is an estimate.
